Tagging subscribers in Shopify
Content Vault can tag your subscribers in Shopify automatically, so you can segment, discount and email them by the plan they're on — without maintaining a list by hand.
Turning it on
- Go to Apps → Content Vault → Subscriptions
- Open the subscription and select a plan
- In Plan settings, choose Customer tagging
- Tick Tag customers on Shopify
Tagging is configured per plan, so each tier can apply its own tags.

Which tags get applied
Default tags
Two tags are applied automatically and cannot be removed:
Subscriber— every Content Vault subscriber gets this oneSubscribed - <Plan name>— built from the plan's name, so a plan called All-Access producesSubscribed - All-Access
Because the second tag follows the plan name, renaming a plan changes the tag that new subscribers receive. If you rely on these tags in Shopify segments or automations, rename plans with that in mind.
Custom tags
The Custom tags field takes a comma-separated list — for example
VIP, Premium, Gold. These are applied in addition to the default tags,
never instead of them.
When tags are added and removed
- Added when the customer subscribes
- Removed when the subscription is cancelled or expires
This matters: the tags describe current subscribers. A customer who cancels
loses the tag, so a Shopify segment built on Subscriber stays accurate on its
own rather than slowly filling up with lapsed customers.
What to use them for
Once the tags are in Shopify, they behave like any other customer tag:
- Customer segments — build a segment of
Subscribed - All-Accessmembers - Discounts — restrict a discount code to a specific tier
- Email marketing — sync segments to Shopify Email or your ESP
- Shopify Flow — trigger automations when a tag is added or removed
